We invite expressions of interest for one forthcoming postdoctoral position at the Department of Psychology at the University of Milano-Bicocca, working on the project “EPITHETS – Explaining Pejoratives In THeoretical and Experimental TermS”, under the supervision of Simone Sulpizio.

Duration: 12 months

Tentative starting date: February 2024

Project description:

EPITHETS investigates the role of expressives, also in relation to the linguistic context of use. The project focuses on two frequently used negative epithets, that are slurs and particularistic insults, and aims at investigating their expressive content in order to understand possible differences in the information they convey. EPITHETS is a multi-center project, which synergistically combines conceptual analysis with behavioural and neurolinguistic empirical methods.

The Department of Psychology at UniMiB:

The Department is extremely young and yet presents a great tradition: established in 1999 as part of a newly-instituted university, its roots lie in the Institute of Psychology of the Faculty of Literature and Philosophy of the University of Milano, founded by the famous Italian psychoanalyst Cesare Musatti.

The Department combines basic and applied research, building on effective interactions between various disciplines, which all contribute to the knowledge of the mind. Today, it is one of Italy’s most prestigious and high-ranked departments of psychology, as well as being the largest, with its current 79 faculty members, dozens of doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows, and over 20 research laboratories.

Ideal candidates for the postdoc positions:

We welcome expressions of interest from researchers with PhD in psychology, cognitive (neuro)science, linguistics, and related disciplines. We aim for a good work-life balance and a friendly, inclusive research environment. Women and people of marginalized communities are strongly encouraged to apply.

Desired areas of expertise:

  • collection and analysis of ERP data
  • best practices in open science
  • research in word and/or sentence processing

Expressions of interest must be submitted via email to simone.sulpizio@unimib.it and include:

  • a CV
  • names and contacts of one or two references

Please note that this is just an informal call of interest. Positions will still be subject to a formal hiring procedure, in compliance with institutional requirements.

    Abstract:
"In spite of the local and national issues discussed in each country, there are global challenges prioritized as requiring action and reflection that are common to all education systems. After sharing some of the burning issues for the education systems, including teacher shortage, the digital revolution and the place of AI, among others, this conference will focus on the theme of equity and inclusion, building on the ongoing work at the European Agency for Special Needs and Inclusive Education (EASNIE).Inclusive education is a shared goal for the construction of a fair, cohesive and resilient society. Several countries have been embracing the goal of transforming education systems, by adopting new legislation to achieve this purpose. In spite of this alignment, a constant clarification of the key principles of inclusive systems is required. EASNIE’s member countries have approved and revised a position paper on the characteristics of inclusive education, which constitutes a robust starting point for legislative reforms.
If agreement on the principles is a requirement, the biggest challenge is the move from policy to practice. Member countries identified implementation, monitoring and sustainability of inclusive education as one of the main priorities for joint action. This presentation will present a summary of lessons learned from the Country Cluster Activities, and highlight main areas for a positive implementation and monitoring, focusing on areas such as the role of collaboration, learner and parent participation, leadership, teacher preparation and professional development, communication between policy-makers, stakeholders and the society. Effective monitoring and evidence-based decisions for the sustainability of the legislative procedures will also be illustrated through practical examples."
